The memories of the lovely football nights in the old stadium will be kept alive in Freiburg, in the deep south of Germany, in the heart of the Black Forest. We hope that the great atmosphere will remain in the new Europa-Park Stadion, opened in October 2021.
Europa-Park Stadion
Because of the pandemic, the opening had been postponed several times but it has finally happened: SC Freiburg has moved. From the east of the city back to the west, to a brand-new stadium, right next to the airstrip of the small airport of Freiburg. The Europa-Park has place for 34.700 fans. From the outside, it seems like the roof is carried by a zigzagging spiral surrounding the stadium. From the inside, the design isn't revolutionary and quite right-squared, but the crest and name of the club are beautifully woven in the seats.

Schwarzwald-Stadion
The stadium where SC Freiburg played until 2021 had something special. The Schwarzwald-Stadion wasn't a wonderful design on itself, but the location was beautiful. In a greener part of Freiburg, next to a babbling river, between the coniferous hills of the Black Forest. From the stadium you had because of the low stands a wonderful view on the surrounding nature.
Sadly enough SC Freiburg won't play here anymore, but the good news is that the stadium will be preserved and become the home stadium of the reserves team, playing in the 3. Liga.

Schwarzwaldblick
The big losers of the move of SC Freiburg, this restaurant at the Schwarzwaldstraße saw the club move away and will feels this in the turnover. Before and after every home game this was the place for a good glass of beer and a schnitzel, for home and away fans.
Möslestadion
The stadium is not far from the Schwarzwald-Stadion, and if possible even more beautifully located in the nature. It's the former home of Freiburger FC, for years the biggest club of the city and even German champions in 1907. Around the turn of the century SC Freiburg took over the stadion of the struggling FFC, and since then the youth and the second team played their matches here. The Möslestadion has a nice old main stand with terracing before and is really worth a visit.
Café Melange
Walk from the train station of Freiburg straight ahead into the Eisenbahnstraße, where after two minutes you'll have Café Melange on your right hand, a coffee bar without seating. Here you can easily bump in the man with the most famous design haircut of Germany: Joachim Löw. The former manager of the German national team is a man of the region and used to play at SC Freiburg too, back in the eighties. In Café Melange Jogi usually comes by for a quick coffee, before hopping on a train to watch some of his players all over the country.
Rathaus
The Rathausplatz was in 1993 decor of a giant party, after SC Freiburg was promoted to the Bundesliga for the first time. The players of manager Volker Finke - who remained in office for 16 years - appeared on the balcony of the town hall, something which is unthinkable these days: SC Freiburg has outgrown the narrow Rathausplatz.
Tickets
For tickets you can buy tickets on the official website of SC Freiburg. The old stadium was a little smaller and was usually sold-out, but in the Europa-Park Stadion it's a little bit easier.
How to get there
The accessibility of SC Freiburg has improved with their move. Within ten minutes you'll reach the stadium from the A5 motorway. Around the stadium, there's a lot of car parks for which you can reserve a ticket online in the presale. Another option is parking at the Messe, the trade fair of Freiburg. Here you can leave your car for ten euros on match days, and is a 15 minute walk away from the Europa-Park Stadion.
The public transport is well organized too. With the S-Bahn it's only three minutes from Freiburg Hauptbahnhof to stop Messe/Universität, a ten minute walk away from the stadium. Tram 4 in direction of Messe take a couple of minutes more, but when you step off the tram at stop Stadion it's a shorter walk. With your match ticket, the public transport in Freiburg is free before and after the match.
